Torque Analysis of a Gyratory Crusher with the Discrete Element Method

Comminution by gyratory crusher is the first stage in size reduction operation mineral processing. In copper industry, these machines are widely utilized, and their reliability has become a relevant aspect. To optimize design to improve availability of crushers, it necessary calculate power torque accurately. The discrete element method (DEM) been commonly used several mining applications powerful tool predict required machines. this paper, DEM model was applied perform comprehensive analysis loads mantle, crushing torque, power. A novel polar representation radial forces proposed that may help designers, engineers, operators recognize distribution force on mantle an easier intuitive way. Simulations with different operational conditions presented validated through comparison nominal data. calculation procedure for crushers presented, recommendations selection minimum resolved particle given.
